Recently, President William Ruto has announced plans to build the modern Jacaranda Grounds Stadium at Jacaranda Grounds in Soweto, Embakasi East, Nairobi.

The Head of State announced these plans on Thursday during an inspection tour that he made on the site of the ongoing rehabilitation works at the Savannah–Stage 17 Bridge Road in Soweto. Additionally, he revealed that the construction works on the stadium will commence officially in September 2025.

“As from September this year, I return here to officially launch the construction works of the stadium,” Ruto stated. Additionally, he stated that the government would also invest in other social amenities. These amenities include schools, hospitals, and other critical infrastructure in the area.

Nyayo and Kasarani Stadiums Renovated

Furthermore, the announcement comes after the Ministry of Defence officially handed over the newly renovated Nyayo and Kasarani stadiums. These two stadiums were refurbished by the government in preparation for the upcoming 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) tournament that will to begin in August.

The Kasarani stadium has undergone major upgrades. Furthermore, the upgrades done on the stadium were to ensure full compliance with the standards of Confederation of African Football (CAF) and the Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) standards ahead of the CHAN 2024 and the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2027.

Lastly, during the inspection of the stadium, Ruto affirmed that Kenya is fully prepared to host the upcoming CHAN games. This tournament will start on August 3. “ On this day, we can proudly say that we are going to host CHAN on August 3,” he made a declaration.
