The contractor was asked by Natembeya to complete the construction of Kitale’s second ultramodern market in two months. The project is funded by the Kenya National Highway Authority (KENHA) in collaboration with the county government of Trans Nzoia.
Kenya Railways Corporation donated 2.5 acres of land.
Funds committed to seeing the construction of Kitale’s second ultramodern market complete
It is said KENHA has committed Sh100 million to build the facility. Also, the county government will provide an additional Sh200 million. The project is part of the second lot of the multi-national project to upgrade the Eldoret Towns Bypass and the Kapchorwa, Suam, Kitale, and Uganda-Kenya Towns Bypass.
The market, according to Governor Natembeya, will raise the bar for business practices and standards for traders in Kitale Town and the surroundings.
Following public participation, he stated that the Kitale’s second ultramodern market would be named for heroes who made significant contributions to the area’s development.
When the market is complete in two months, traders will be given priority, he said.
He issued warnings to cartels that demanded money from naive traders in exchange for trading space.
Additionally, Natembeya disclosed that all old former National Housing Corporation houses would soon be demolished. This will be done to make way for the construction of affordable housing units. The housing units are intended to tackle the town’s shortage of decent houses.
He claimed that the project’s rollout will be good news for both the working elitists as well as other local residents who have been longing for decent housing.
He pledged to deal with all land grabbers in the county in a decisive manner. The governor criticized the fact that land grabbing is becoming rampant in the county. He issued a warning that those involved will face the law.
