The construction of Lagos State Food Security Systems and Central Logistics Hub is set to begin. This is after a groundbreaking ceremony that was presided over by Sanwo-Olu, the Governor of the southwest Nigerian state.

The park, which will be Africa’s largest, will be built on 1.2 million square meters of land at Ketu-Ereyun, Epe. Two phases will be used to carry out the Lagos State Food Security Systems and Central Logistics Hub project. These phases are the pilot phase and the main phase.

Upon completion, the facility will include aggregation/storage facilities, administrative offices, trading/brokering facilities, and packaging facilities. In addition, it will also include processing facilities, cold chain/dry goods services, logistics services/ trailer park, and a water treatment plant. A health center, fuel station/ Fire station, and abattoir will also be featured.

Expectations for the Lagos State Food Security Systems and Central Logistics Hub

When finished, the Lagos State Food Security Systems and Central Logistics Hub will generate income for over 5 million people. It will also feed over 10 million Lagos residents and ensure food supplies for at least 90 days. Moreover, the facility will provide storage for over 1,500 trucks per day.

According to the governor, the project would guarantee higher returns for farmers by eliminating several layers of middlemen. Similarly,  farmers will get easy access to modern processing and packaging services, businesses, and multilateral organizations. Sanwo-Olu added that the hub would improve the shopping experience for customers and contribute to a decrease in logistical expenses.

Sanwo-Olu inspects other projects in the region

On the sidelines of the launch of the Lagos State Food Security Systems and Central Logistics Hub, the governor inspected other ongoing projects in the region. These projects include the University of Science and Technology on Ikorodu/Itokin Road and the Psychiatric Hospital in Ketu Ereyun, Epe, Lagos.

Sanwo-Olu also revealed that by the end of the year, the state’s Epe and Ikorodu divisions would open the Imota Rice Mill and Timberville for the new Oko Baba.
