The construction of the Lt. Gen. Paul Lokech Memorial Hospital was recently launched in the Pader district. The idea of constructing a hospital in Lokech’s honor after his demise came from his prolonged desire to improve the district’s healthcare system. 

The hospital is a project of the Paul Lokech Foundation that was launched at his Kampala residence on August 8, 2022. 

The cost of establishing the Lt. Gen. Paul Lokech Memorial Hospital

The project to construct the Memorial Hospital is expected to cost Shillings 2.967 billion. Reportedly funds will be raised from friends, well-wishers, and locals.

During the foundation’s launch, it was disclosed that relatives and well-wishers in Uganda raised 85 million Shillings to kickstart the works. Those in Canada on the other hand raised 150 million Shillings. Shillings 8.8 million and another shilling 38 million in pledges were raised for the foundation during the recent memorial prayer.

Budgeted costs for the Lt. Gen. Paul Lokech Memorial Hospital preliminary work include 25 million Shillings; its foundation, 800 million Shillings, and its first floor, 365 million Shillings. Its roofing will cost a total of 530 million Shillings. Also, the cost of the hospital’s windows, curtain walls, and doors is estimated to be 761 million shillings.

Other measures suggested honoring the senior military officer

In order to honor Lt. Gen. Paul Lokech’s legacy, Rtd Col. Fearless Obwoya, the LC V Chairperson of Pader district, requested that the government declare August 21 of every year a public holiday for Ugandans. He added that the Pader district will observe that day every year and that nobody will be needed to work on that day.

The portrait of Lt. Gen. Lokech should be displayed at Gulu City Council Hall, according to Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs Norbert Mao, in honor of his great work.
