The main contractor for project Botanical Place in West Byfleet has been appointed. Higgins is the company appointed by Retirement Villages Group (RVG). The latter describes the development as a premier integrated retirement village.

The Botanical Place will be constructed on the site of the former Sheer House office building and shopping district. This is situated in the heart of the community of West Byfleet. Moreover, the PRP Architects-designed project will contain 196 units. The units are particularly meant for persons in retirement who want to buy or rent, live independently, but still have community, support, and facilities on-site.

Furthermore, a public square with neighboring stores, eateries, and a library will serve as the area’s focal point. Generally, Botanical Place is developed in line with RVG’s objective of growing into more central and semi-urban areas. A £2 billion investment program by Axa IM Alts, is supporting the project.  Axa IM Alts is a division of the French insurance corporation Axa

Botanical Place in West Byfleet: the first net-zero carbon retirement community

James Ahearne, the director of RVG development commented on the project. He said that his is a project of enormous importance to the company because it is the benchmark for sustainable, integrated retirement communities.

“We have had a terrific working partnership together with the council and all local stakeholders that has shaped our proposals. It’s exciting for everyone engaged to be moving into building at this point. It is even more exiting that tis is happening in a difficult inflationary situation. We are all eagerly anticipating September. This is when we will start construction on Botanical Place with the first shovel in the ground. However, we and our colleagues at Higgins Partnerships have a lot of work to do before the scheme opens in late 2024.

As we work to set the standard for sustainability in the aging industry, Botanical Place will be the first whole-life, net-zero carbon retirement community in the UK,” concluded Ahearne.
