Urban waterfront developer Waterside Places recently signed a major contract with Clarion Housing Group to construct the fourth and the final phase of Manchester Islington Wharf. The site’s location is within the Piccadilly Basin where it has been transformed since work first started in 2005.
Its deal with Latimer, who are the development arm of Clarion, will avail a landmark scheme for 106 flats in two buildings at 11 and 16 storeys.The wider Islington Wharf scheme has been constructed by developer Waterside Places, an important joint venture between Muse Developments and the Canal & River Trust.
Waterside Places received planning approval in April 2020 for the project, which is found on the corner of Great Ancoats Street and Old Mill Street. Latimer uttered it would continue with those plans, with Morgan Sindall Construction planning to start work on the site in the next few months.

Ryder Architecture will design the Manchester Islington Wharf with 7,000 sq ft development consisting of 33 one-bedroom apartments and 73 two-bedroom ones. Fifty four of them will be available through shared ownership. Sainsbury’s will take 1,750 sq ft of retail space on the building’s ground floor. Latimer is about to encourage active pass by providing secure cycle storage facilities and limited car parking. Appointed by Waterside Places, Morgan Sindall Construction will act as the scheme’s main contractor. Tom Webber, senior development surveyor at Waterside Places, said that they’re proud to exchange the deal with the Latimer team, which will accelerate the delivery of much-needed affordable homes in the heart of Manchester. “This phase represents the last phase of development here for us and we’re looking forward to aged site to bring forward this striking scheme of apartments.”
News of the Manchester Islington Wharf acquisition comes just two months after another Latimer purchase in Manchester, of the previous Boddingtons site off Great Ducie Street.
