Marine seismic acquisition survey contract was awarded on March 8th this year, for the GJDR Development area of block 17 in Angola.

The contract was awarded by Total E&P Angola, the Central African country’s leading oil operator since 1953, to Shearwater Geoservices holding AS, a Bergen, Norway based seismic exploration company that provides 3D and 4D marine seismic data, imaging products, and data processing software offers marine surveys, geophysical surveys, and other related services to the oil and gas exploration industry.

About the survey

According to the contract, Shearwater will undertake the survey in two months starting from this month (March 2021).

One of the Bergen-based company’s main multisensor vessels will be used for the study, along with source vessels from the Shearwater fleet. This will lead to efficiency gains, reduce transit times and create business and environmental benefits for Total E&P Angola.

An overview of the GJDR Development area of block 17 

Located approximately 150 km off the Angolan coast, block 17 is made up of four major poles Girassol, Dalia, Pazflor, and CLOV and currently produces around 440,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day.

Total, which is the operator, invested in the scope in 1997 and holds a 38% interest while Equinor, ExxonMobil, BP, and Sonangol each hold 22.16%, 19%, 15.84%, and 5% interest respectively. 1
