Longroad Energy, a U.S.-based renewable energy developer, has reached financial close and started building its 1000 Mile Solar project, a 400 MWdc (300 MWac) facility in Yoakum County, Texas. A long-term Environmental Attributes Purchase Agreement signed with Meta in late 2024 covers the entire output. Commercial operation is expected in 2026, with power feeding into the Southwest Power Pool (SPP) grid to support Meta’s 100% renewable energy goals for its data centers.

Financing and Stakeholders

Morgan Stanley Renewables Inc. has committed tax equity financing, while Societe Generale and CIBC led the debt financing with participation from ANZ, Barclays, and KeyBank. According to CEO Paul Gaynor, the 1000 Mile Solar Project is Longroad’s first project in the SPP region and its seventh in Texas, bringing its total utility-scale capacity there to 2.1 GW across ERCOT, MISO and SPP.

Technology and Construction

1000 Mile Solar Project is Longroad’s fifth Texas solar facility using First Solar’s American-made Series 7 modules. SOLV Energy serves as the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractor, with more than 400 workers expected on-site at peak construction. Nextracker will supply its new 75-degree stow smart trackers. Longroad Energy Services, with support from Northstar Energy Management, will oversee long-term operations and maintenance.

Environmental and Community Impact

The project is projected to cut regional emissions by about 475,000 metric tons of CO₂ equivalent per year—over 20% higher carbon abatement than comparable U.S. solar projects, according to REsurety. It is also expected to contribute more than $18 million in tax revenue to local jurisdictions over its lifetime.

About Longroad Energy

Founded in 2016, Longroad Energy has developed or acquired more than 6 GW of renewable projects across the U.S. and currently manages 6.1 GW of wind, solar, and storage assets for itself and third parties. The company mid 2025 commissioned the Sun Streams 4 Solar plus storage that is now powering 12000 homes in Arizona.
