Tech giant Meta is planning to build a massive data center in Wisconsin, with the complex costing nearly US$1 billion. State records revealed the US$837 million project in February under a different name. While not officially named, the scale of the project strongly suggests that Meta is behind it. The Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation has not commented on the company’s identity. A Meta spokesperson also declined to comment about the project’s scope.
Despite the secrecy, the project is making waves across the tech sector. Meta’s vision includes heavy investments in AI and cloud computing. In 2025, Meta is estimated it will spend up to US$65 billion on AI infrastructure. That includes massive upgrades to support artificial intelligence. Meta’s Wisconsin Data Center is part of that vision. It joins other Meta’s data centers in Iowa and Illinois. The Wisconsin facility is still in the planning phase as it awaits final approval.
