Jospong Group of Companies (JGC), one of the most diversified holdings companies in Ghana, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Hungarian government, and Pureco Kft, a 100% Hungarian-owned international company that develops, manufactures, and sells sustainable and affordable water management solutions, products and technologies, for development and construction of 13 wastewater treatment plants in Ghana.
The MoU was signed by Mr. Joseph Siaw Agyepong, the Executive Chairman of the JGC, and Mr. Balint Horvath, the Managing Director of Pureco Kft on behalf of their respective companies in the presence of Ms. Cecilia Dapaah, the West African country’s Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, and Mr. Tamas Endre Feher, the Hungarian Ambassador to Ghana, when Mr. Janos Ader, the President of Hungary was on an official visit to Ghana.
The subsidy for the construction of the 13 wastewater treatment plants in Ghana will be provided by the Exim Bank of Hungary through a close to US$ 79.5M loan facility.
The 13 wastewater treatment plants in Ghana to complement existing waste treatment plants
The 13 wastewater treatment plants in Ghana are expected to provide a huge boost to the country’s infrastructure and complement the already existing waste treatment facilities including the Kumasi wastewater treatment plant (KWTP), which was inaugurated last year (2021) in Adagya, Ashanti region.

The 1000 cubic per day KWTP has the capacity to receive and treat 150 cesspit tanks of liquid waste trucks on a daily basis, and it can serve over two million people in the Greater Kumasi Metropolitan in the Ashanti region.
There are 2 other wastewater treatment plants similar to and constructed by the same contractors i.e. JGC and Pureco in Takoradi and Tamale in the western and northern regions of Ghana respectively.
