The National Highways has chosen VolkerFitzpatrick to improve junction 9 of the M3 motorway in the United Kingdom. This is an important motorway junction in the United Kingdom. It connects south Hampshire to London, the Midlands, and the north. Over 6,000 vehicles pass through this junction hourly during peak periods.

The £200 million upgrade project will reduce congestion and improve travel in the area. It includes the construction of four traffic lanes in each direction of the M3. This is as well as the provision of a same-direction free-flow link between the M3 and the A34. VolkerFitzpatrick will also be in charge of constructing three new bridges, rearranging the main junction 9 roundabout, and delivering several other structures, including new underpasses.

As part of this project, VolkerFitzpatrick will also deliver a number of enhancements for cycling and walking. VolkerFitzpatrick will reuse the project’s current sub-base, which will be examined before being re-laid, to lessen its environmental impact. The company announced that steps would also be taken to lessen the ecological impact on the neighborhood, including the South Downs National Park, as well as on the local animal and plant species.

It will interact with the neighborhood’s elementary schools, the local population, and neighborhood supply chain contractors. “We are pleased to have been appointed to deliver the M3, junction 9 upgrade project, continuing our collaboration with National Highways,” said Deon Scholtz, director of VolkerFitzpatrick Highways. We will be able to deliver our internal highways expertise in a way that best serves the communities in which we work thanks to the regional approach.

The £8.7 billion Regional Delivery Partnership for National Highways includes the junction 9 improvement project. On-site work on this project is expected to start in early 2025.
