Two New Fighter Jet Facilities in Canada will be constructed in Alberta and Quebec by Stantec, leading engineering, architecture, and design firm. Jodoin Lamarre Pratte architectes has been mandated, within the multidisciplinary team assembled by the joint-venture of builders Ellis Don / EBC and Stantec in engineering, to design the fighter jets squadron facility on one of the main bases of operations.
The Future Fighter Capability Project Fighter Squadron Facilities will be at 3 Wing Bagotville in Quebec, and at 4 Wing Cold Lake in Alberta. Both facilities will provide space for daily operations, aircraft maintenance, mission planning, administration, and simulator training. They will also both be constructed and designed with the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Silver standard. Stantec has also announced that they will use energy-efficient options wherever possible. Construction is expected to begin at both bases in summer next year.

The Cold Lake Fighter Squadron Facility, at more than 40,000 square meters, will host the Operational Training Unit, two Tactical Fighter Squadrons, and their support facilities. The Bagotville FSF will cover 30,0000 square meters and will host two Tactical Fighter Squadrons. “It is an honor to lead the design of the infrastructure for the future fighter jets in Alberta and Quebec. These projects support the expansion of Canada’s Air Force capabilities and will support the Royal Canadian Air Force fighter operations at both bases. Our team is excited to not only deliver a facility that can support the advancement of Canada’s military but focuses on sustainability and efficiency. It’s truly a future-focused project,” said the managing senior principal at Stantec, Elisa Brandts.
“Our teams are proud to be awarded the contracts for the design of the new fighter jet facilities and are excited to work with Stantec as our Design-Build partners. Our collective project experience and our local teams have established a strong foundation for both EllisDon and Stantec to continuing our successful partnership with Defence Construction Canada and the Department of National Defence on these projects in Alberta and Quebec,” said the Edmonton Area Manager at EllisDon, Chris Lane.
