The Nasarawa State in Nigeria has allocated USD2.5m for the construction and rehabilitation of roads and bridges.

This was disclosed by Governor Umaru tanko Almakura in Fadama Bauna when he inspected the sorry state of the roads in Lafia east development area. He said that although the amount allocated is not adequate, he promised the government would consider reviewing its financial commitment to meet the set targets.

“One thing we find very disturbing that has caused so much hardship to the people of rural communities is the issue of culverts and bridges that cut them off from other communities during the rainy season.” Said Almakura
He pointed out areas in the Lafia east and Lafia North development areas as the most vulnerable and have some of the most disturbing infrastructural challenges. He said so far close to 33 bridges and box culverts have been earmarked in the Southern senatorial Zone.

The governor hinted at the government’s plan to engage the services of Triacta Nig. Ltd due to their capacity and ability to finish the work on time so as to avoid the rain peak seasons. The contractor has been given two months to complete the work.

The governor was quick to warn those encroaching on forest reserved areas of Akurda and land set aside for the proposed airstrip in Angwan Rere. He warned them to vacate to avoid forceful eviction. The commissioner for lands and survey Mr Sunny Agassi together with the general manager of Urban development Board Mr. Adamu Sule were given order to reposes back all grabbed public land.

“All those people who encroached on those lands should vacate them as soon as possible because government would take physical possession of the land in no distant future.” He said. He warned those occupying public land not to erect physical structure because they will be pooled down
