Nigeria launches rehabilitation of major roads in Lagos

Nigeria is is set to commence construction work  on two major roads in Lagos, following the surge of heavy vehicle using the roads. The Abesan and Ajasa command roads will be constructed in 2 weeks’ time.

Lagos Governor Akinwunmi Ambode announced that the road has become deteriorated due to high number of vehicles using the road. Most motorist prefer to link Ipaja and Ayobo through the axis from Alagbado.

The road construction project will begin from the Ajasa-Command axis, after Ile-Iwe junction where the previous construction works stopped. The project will however, accommodate drainage systems. walkways and street lights.

Alhaji Abdulrazak Olajide, the State community leader attributed the community problem to pipe-borne water, good roads, electricity, schools and health facility.

He added that schools and health centres will be constructed within the community. The projects are among the 2016 highlight budget. He also confirmed that the project will be completed before the end of 2016.

Lagos State is the smallest in size and is located in the southwestern geopolitical zone of the Nigerian Federation.

It is bounded by the Ogun State on the North and East. On the west it shares boundaries with the Republic of Benin and on its southern borders lies the Atlantic Ocean. It is the most populous city in Lagos State and in Nigeria as a whole. The population of Lagos city is approximately 16 million.

The State is protected from the Atlantic Ocean by barrier islands and long sand spits such as Bar Beach, which stretch up to 100 kilometres (62 miles) east and west of the mouth.The Metropolitan area of Lagos include: Agege, Mushin and Ikeja (which is the capital of Lagos State).

Besides being the most economically important state of the country, the state is also the country’s largest urban area. However, 22% of its 3,577 km2 are lagoons and creeks.
