Transmission Company of Nigeria has hit target contribution to the national grid. The company will deliver 101,088 Megawatt Hours (MWH) per day to the national grid. This is according to a statement issued and signed by Mrs. Seun Olagunju, the General Manager of Public Affairs.
Earlier, the company had a record of 99, 450MWH attained on October last year. However, the current achievement was attained under the umbrella of the Manitoba Hydro International (MHI), the management contractor of TNC. Moreover, the MHI concluded an agreement on short, medium and long terms grid expansion plans set specifically with an aim to growing and sustain improved nation’s transmission grid.
Despite the power challenges the country continues to face, Transmission Company of Nigeria remains focused pursuing the intended expansion plan that will ensure that its grid expansion goals and timelines are successfully met. The company also has plans to grow its network capability to evacuate even more energy in the system.
However, the company is also optimistic to ensure a robust and reliable transmission network; and that it will continue to work hard to build on the gains of its improved wheeling capacity.
Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) was incorporated in November 2005. TCN emerged from the defunct National Electric Power Authority (NEPA) as a product of the merger of the Transmission and Operations sectors on April 1, 2004.
Being one of the 18 unbundled Business Units under the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN), the company was issued a transmission License on 1st July, 2006. TCN licensed activities include: electricity transmission, system operation and electricity trading which is ring fenced.
