The Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) has urged the governments at all levels to partner the private sector on the development of capacity of institutions and personnel for a sustainable implementation of the proposed 30 year master plan tagged National Integrated Infrastructure Master Plan (NIIMP).

The association has commended the Federal Government for the initiative to develop the master plan expected to tackle the infrastructural deficit and create millions of jobs for the Nigeria’s crowded population.
The association has also urged professional bodies, regulatory bodies, academia and the industry to foster functional linkages in order to acquire and deploy technology to support the implementation of NIIMP.

However, the regulatory bodies for tertiary education has been requested to partner with professional bodies to review the curricular for the various academic programmes in polytechnics, universities, technical centers and vocational institutions to generating the right mix of skilled manpower to execute the different programmes and projects under NIIMP.

The Federal Ministry of Budget and Planning in partnership with NSE and other relevant professional bodies are required to promote harmonization for effective planning and management of major NIIMP programmes and projects, to address the identified challenges in NIIMP implementation, particularly, the agricultural, transportation, power, and water resources sectors as well as the general insecurity across the nation.

In July 2012, former Nigerian President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan approved the National Planning Commission to coordinate the preparation of a National Integrated Infrastructure Master Plan (NIIMP) for the country. Even though, the Plan will be implemented over a period of thirty years from 2014 – 2043, the NIIMP will adopt a coordinated approach to its development and will among others, address lack of linkages in the infrastructure sector.

The Nigerian Society of Engineers is the umbrella organization for the Engineering Profession in Nigeria. The Society looks after the professional needs of members through well structured programmes and regular interactions among the different cadre of membership, enhancing high professional standard and ethical practices.
