Construction on the new Carolina Panthers Team Headquarters is progressing in earnest and finally starting to take shape, with several steel support beams emerging from the ground on the rocky 240-acre development site. The facility is a 600,000-square-foot structure, designed to be five stories high, using up to 8,875 total tons of structural steel, more than 75 miles of PVC conduit, 2.5 million feet of wire and 4,145 light fixtures.
The construction work on this project is being managed through a joint partnership between Mascaro and Barton Malow contractors. According to the construction project executive, John West, the steel frame of the Carolina Panthers Team Headquarters facility, still has a long way to go, and at the moment, only about 1,800 pieces of steel out of 9,000 have been erected.

The new state-of-the-art Panthers’ headquarters was designed by Populous, a Kansas City-based sports architecture firm, and the development plans will also include offices for the team, training/locker room facilities, a 100,000-square-foot indoor practice center with a regulation-sized NFL field; an outdoor artificial field to be built as part of a 5,000-seat multi-purpose stadium, designed to cater for amateur sports, concerts, and corporate and community events; and three natural grass outdoor practice fields. In addition, this Carolina Panthers Team Headquarters project will also cover the construction of a public square, ponds, fountains, and other gathering spots to be made available.
Located just over the South Carolina state line in Rock Hill, off Interstate 77 between Dave Lyle Boulevard and Eden Terrace, the Carolina Panthers Team Headquarters, is nicknamed “The Rock”, due to its architectural design that depicts a rock jutting out of the ground. The project’s site was designed to become a true destination site for the entire region which includes not only a world-class sports complex, but also makes room for entertainment, dining, retail, athletics and medical care.
Mark Hart, vice president and chief operating officer at Tepper Sports & Entertainment, the parent company of the Panthers, estimated the initial cost of the project to be around $800 million. He also mentioned that the project is being financed through incentives of $400 million, provided by the local and state government for roads and other infrastructure.
Panthers’ new headquarters is meant to become the main base for the team’s business and football operations, which implies that the Panthers will continue to play their home games at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, while all other club-related activities such as off-season workouts, training camp, and in-season practices, will be organized at “The Rock.” The team plans on moving into the new Carolina Panthers Team Headquarters in 2023.
