The project will see to the 2-storey renovations in the central clinic. Also to be done by Skanska is the 5-floors expansion just close to the existing central clinic. The total construction and renovation area covered will be around 16,000 sq meters.
Skanska’s expansion of the Eastern Hospital in Sweden for the awarded SEK 500 contract is definitely worthwhile. This is in the sense of what is expected of the health facility in Gothenburg once the project is complete.

The expanded Östra Hospital
The revamped hospital will cater for the increased demand of intensive care services and pressure chamber treatment. This will not only serve Gothernburg but also the Västra Götaland region and Sweden as a whole.
Also in foresight – calling the need for expansion and renovation of the Östra Hospital– is the want to make strides in advanced research in health sciences. Once expanded, the health facility will provide more room, amenities, and resources for this.
Important to also note is that healthcare is the region’s largest business, getting over 90% allocation in the Västra Götaland region’s budget.
The Östra Hospital is part of the trio hospital campus forming part of the Sahlgrenska University Hospital in Gothenburg in Sweden. The other two are Sahlgrenska and Mölndal hospitals. For medical history-lovers, the hospital network gave the world the Koch Pouch surgical procedure, the guidelines for stroke rehabilitation, and also leader behind team of the first successful uterus transplantation.
