On Tuesday (November 16), the OTB Foundation of designer and entrepreneur Renso Rosso, co-founder of the Diesel Brand, and UNHCR announced a collaboration to establish a new refugee school in Mozambique ahead of Children’s Rights Day on Saturday (November 20).
The initiative is part of the “Instant Network Schools” program for refugee children’s education.
Refugee school in Mozambique as multimedia centres
The program’s goal is to eliminate inequalities in internet access and education and assist in providing a high-quality education to all refugees.
The OTB-UNHCR cooperation was formed to achieve this goal by converting classrooms in refugee camps or distant villages into multimedia centres with internet connectivity and solar electricity.
According to reports, the initiative will involve a program to train instructors to use online instructional resources and educate over 2,000 youngsters with the help of 128 teachers and two coaches.
Each new school class will be equipped with an Instant Classroom package that includes 25 tablets, a laptop, a projector, and a sound system.
UNHCR opened two more schools in Mozambique this year, serving over 9,000 children and over 200 teachers.
Following the Refugee Housing Unit in Niger, a new joint initiative has been launched.
Renzo Rosso said, “we are convinced that youths represent the future. For this reason, OTB Foundation has long supported organizations focusing on minors and has also donated hundreds of tablets to different schools in Italy with the objective of providing technical support to remote learning.”
Rosso further noted that the company’s foundation works on worldwide, national, and local integration projects. OTB has already worked with UNHCR on the Refugee Housing Unit project, providing 100 refugees with practical and long-lasting housing units in Niger.
