Scatec ASA has announced that is teaming up with ACME Group, to establish a 50:50 joint venture to design, develop, build, own and operate a Green Ammonia Plant in Oman.

Formerly known as Scatec Solar ASA, Scatec ASA is a Norwegian company that specializes in renewable energy systems while ACME Group, officially known as ACME Cleantech Solutions Pvt. Ltd. is one of the leading global sustainable and renewable energy companies.

Located in the Duqm Special Economic Zone, the Green Ammonia Plant in Oman will produce a total of 100,000 tonnes of green ammonia annually in the first phase that is set to be operational within this year. This will be achieved with the help of a 300MW capacity electrolyzer powered by a 500MW solar farm.

The capacity of the entire Green Ammonia Plant in Oman

The entire project was set to produce 2,400 tons of green ammonia daily, translating to an annual output of around 876,000 tons. However, following Scatec’s announcement, Manoj Upadhyay, the founder and chairman of Acme said that the plant will now be able to produce well over 1.2 million tons per annum.

Manoj further expressed that the potential for further production capacity is possible in the near future and while at the same location.

Scatec to capitalize on ACME Group expertise

CEO of Scatec, Raymond Carlsen expressed his appreciation for Oman’s excellent solar resource adding that Oman was also an exceptional and strategic location for the plant.

The chief executive officer also acknowledged that the ACME Group had been at the forefront of green ammonia production and asserted that Scatec would capitalize on its expertise in project structuring, renewables, financing, execution, and operation in order to contribute towards the decarbonization of the world.
