The new building at the University of Gothenburg
Covering about 10,000 square meters of floor area, the new eight-story building features a rather dynamic and institutional-like design as entailed by Johannes Norlander Arkitektur.
Also featuring a basement, the new building for the School of Business, Economics and Law will host lecture halls, student workstations, dining areas, and administrative offices.
There will also be a new main entrance as part of an efficiency-themed-façade. Why is efficiency in mind for the construction of the new entrance? The entrance has been designed to connect to the future Haga Station in the West Link railway line. This is in the broader plan to integrate the University of Gothenburg to the city planning structure; all with an aim to improving commuting and access to the institution.
Commitment to sustainability and development
Also considered by the Akademiska Hus – and soon to be actualized by Peab, is the issue of sustainability. According to the client, there will be considerate material re-use where possible. The use of marble floor from the old building for a skyway in the new building is an example. Other materials indicated in this are the limestone façades and granite blocks.
The recent contract award for the construction of the University of Gothenburg new building was met with nothing short of enthusiasm. “The new building for the School of Business, Economics and Law will be a fantastic center of knowledge that will strengthen both research and education in the heart of Gothenburg. We’re pleased to be able to contribute to the University’s development with a modern and sustainable building and look forward to having Peab as our partner in the completion of the project,” said Ali Ranji. Ali is the Project Director at Akademiska Hus.
