Plans are underway for the development of a $111 million mixed-use project referred to as The Commons in East point, Georgia. The East Point City Council recently approved the development plans proposed by Mynd Match Development Group, which are intended to revitalize East Point’s downtown core. This development will take place on a vacant 9-acre site, located about five miles away from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

The Commons will be the first and the largest apartment project to be proposed  in East Point, since The Redwine Creek Apartments development  in 2015. It features up to 300 residential units, with the inclusion of commercial and retail components, public green spaces and art designs to the city. Housing units will be available at market rent rates ranging between $1,100 to $2,100, and 10% of the units will be earmarked as affordable units, with  rental rates between $800 to $1000. In addition, East Point public safety workers, who wish to reside downtown will also be allotted a small percentage.

Public input for East Point Commons mixed-use project

City leaders have decided to accept the public’s input regarding The Commons’ architectural design and other features in forthcoming public meetings. This is targeted at harmonizing the project with the East Point Library nearby and other downtown buildings in the area. The developers are hopeful that the three-phase project would be finished by 2024 and according to a project executive with Choate Construction Co., Britton K. Miles, the design and permitting process would be conducted during the next 12 months.

The Chairman and CEO of Mynd Match Development Group, Excellent Lewis, pointed out that The Common is not only intended for revitalizing downtown East Point, but will also generate over 1,500 equitable jobs, which will be beneficial to the community and local businesses. Lewis also said he was certain that the expertise provided by their partner companies which include Choate, Baker Tilly, TVS, CoRErep and Honig, along with feedback from public and local businesses  will create developments that the entire community will benefit from.
