A firm has been appointed to deliver the Great Muscat structural plan. The firm, Cundall, was appointed by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning. Cundall is a global multidisciplinary engineering and design solutions provider. 

The structural planning is a part of the project’s third phase. Therefore, the firm’s appointment marks a significant progress milestone for the entire project. The firm will be a part of a consortium that will work collaboratively. The multidisciplinary team will be led by Broadway Malyan and F&M Middle East.

The Great Muscat project places focus and priority on the strengthening as well as the promotion of sustainable design within the urban environment.

The mandate of Cundall as far as the Great Muscat project is concerned 

Cundall will be responsible for the analysis of flood risks. Furthermore, it will also analyze coastal change while safeguarding and preserving the natural environment. The team said that it will ensure that the project benefits from a city-wide utility infrastructure network that is resilient and efficient. Additionally, the firm noted that it will also place emphasis on the water lifecycle alongside renewable technology.

The Operation Director and Partner to Cundall spoke about the project. Lee French said that the Great Muscat Project will serve as a fantastic opportunity for Oman to demonstrate their desire to plan for future generations. Furthermore on, both, a regional as well as a global stage through urban planning. The structural plan is set to be complete by 2023.

A workshop was recently held in Grand Millennium for further deliberations on the project’s master plan. The seminar also held discussions on the existing state of planning in Greater Muscat. The project aims to provide solutions to the identified challenges facing urban growth as well as the development of opportunities in Greater Muscat.
