Trillion Energy International, a leading oil and natural gas producer in Europe and Türkiye has resumed work on the SASB Gas Field in Turkey. The company is working on the velocity string tubing (VS) program on two tripods following the completion of operations on the Akcakoca platform last year in November. According to the press release, a crane barge arrived at the gas field to transport the snubbing unit from the Akcakoca platform to the Akkaya tripod for the next operation.

What is the SASB Gas Field?

So what is the SASB Gas field? It is a site located in the Southwestern Black Sea that produces a critical domestic supply of natural gas for Europe at a time when the region is facing an energy crisis. It consists of quite a number of conventional natural gas pools located in shallow water that Trillion has been tasked with extracting. So far, over US$600 million has been spent on production platforms, pipelines, initial wells and gas plants on the entire project. The entire gas field spans 12,387 hectares and works started on the project in 2022. Phase B of the project aims to have 5 producing wells in the first quarter of this year, 5 development wells and one stratigraphic well.

Back to Trillion’s announcement, the company stated that the Akkaya tripod will be used for the next operation on the Alapli-2 well where 2,996 meters of 2 3/8 tubing will be run. Once the Alapli-2 well is completed, a crane barge will move the snubbing unit to the East Ayazli tripod where 2,888 meters of 2 3/8 VS tubing will be run in the Bayhanli-2 well.

In the beginning of December, Trillion announced that it had installed 2 3/8-inch V tubing in four existing wells, including three extended-reach wells on the Akcakoca Platform within Turkey’s SASB Gas Field. The aim of this process was to boost production, mitigate water loading and improve overall well recovery. Since this installation, West Akcakoca-1 and Guluc-2 wells have resumed production with promising results, demonstrating the program’s early success in improving well performance.
