Preparations for the start of the actual construction works of the New Benin National Assembly Building in the country’s capital Porto-Novo are almost complete.
This came into light when the office of the parliament, led by its president Louis Vlavonou, visited the construction site to assess the progress of the work. At the end of the tour, the delegation revealed that 65% of the equipment and technical resources necessary for the start of the construction works have already been mobilized in the field.
“I acknowledge that the work started at a slow pace but I am certain that if this atmosphere that reigns at the moment on the site can be maintained, there are reasons for the project to be carried out successfully to everyone’s satisfaction, ”said the President of the National Assembly.
“We want the New Benin National Assembly Building to be ready by the time the first ordinary session of the National Assembly is held, during the fortnight of April 2023,” said Louis Vlavonou.
Groundbreaking ceremony
The groundbreaking ceremony for the said project was held back in April 2021 in the leadership of President Louis G. Vlavonou and José Didier Tonato, the Minister in charge of the living environment. Also present at the ceremony were the politico-administrative authorities of the city of Porto-Novo, wise men and notables and crowned heads.
It was at the same time that the signing of the site handover documents with the contractor, China State Construction Engineering Co., Ltd (CSCEC), took place. CSCEC is a Chinese headquartered company with its business covering housing construction, international contracting, real estate development and investment, infrastructure construction and investment, prospecting, and design.
According to Shi Hong Gang, the chairman of CSCEC, the Chinese company will make every effort to do a good job and deliver the New Benin National Assembly Building before the end of the stipulated time (28 months).
