The ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism in Namibia has set aside a total sum of US $8.9m for the rehabilitation of Etosha roads. The amount is expected to rehabilitate 187km of the Etosha National Park road network following complaints from tourists on the dilapidated state of the road. The rehabilitation is scheduled for completion by August 2022.

Rehabilitation works
Currently, the rehabilitation of 47km of the Etosha Roads has been completed. The first phase which involved 18km was completed in mid-July 2019 at a cost of US $852,896.69. This particular cost included the drilling of four boreholes. Phase two which involved 13km was rehabilitated at a cost of about US $537,257.76. The cost included the drilling of two boreholes at Galton Gate.
According to the ministry, this final stretch will be financed by the Road Fund Administration, which has come on board to assist the ministry with the costly exercise. The project is being undertaken by Namibian company Otesa Civil Engineering, which is also responsible for the construction of the Windhoek-Okahandja dual carriageway.
