Repsol has officially commenced commercial operations at its Outpost Solar Facility, a 629 MW photovoltaic (PV) power plant located in Webb County, near Laredo, Texas. This marks Repsol’s fourth solar project in the U.S. to become operational since 2022.

Additionally, the Outpost facility complements Repsol’s 637 MW Frye Solar Project in Kress, Texas with 570 MW of its installed capacity currently online. Together, they bring Repsol’s total operational solar capacity in Texas to approximately 1,206 MW. The two also continue to significantly contribute to Texas’s clean energy output and to Repsol’s U.S. renewable goals. The company also held a groundbreaking ceremony for the 595 MW Pecan Prairie solar facility in Texas on October 1, 2025. This facility is also Repsol’s first ConnectGen project to enter construction under its ownership.

More on the Outpost Solar Facility Project in Texas

The Outpost Solar Facility is secured under a long-term power purchase agreement with a major U.S. utility. This ensures a stable and predictable revenue stream. Additionally, the project also uses high-efficiency photovoltaic modules combined with optimized tracking systems, maximizing energy generation and supporting reliable integration into the ERCOT grid.

During the construction of the Outpost Solar Facility, Repsol created over 600 direct jobs, with local contractors engaged for civil works, mounting structures, and electrical connections. Additionally, the solar farm spans 4,200 acres at a site carefully planned to minimize environmental impact while maintaining compatibility with agricultural uses.

Strategically, the Outpost Solar Facility, together with the Frye Solar Project, positions Repsol to achieve 3 to 4 GW of U.S. installed renewable capacity by 2027. This aligns with the company’s global net-zero goals. More sustainability measures are also incorporated into the project. These include water-efficient cleaning systems for the PV panels, wildlife protection protocols, and dust-control practices during construction.
