Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the vice president, officially opened the Cape Coast inner-city roads on Monday. Construction on the roadways began in 2019.
The Inner-City roads are part of the Master Project Support Agreement (MPSA) between Ghana and the Peoples Republic of China through SinoHydro Corporation.
Phase one of the agreement includes 441km of roads and two interchanges, including the already-opened Jasikan-Dodi-Pepeso road. Other roads in phase one are the 100km Kumasi Inner City Roads, the ongoing Takoradi interchange, and the Tamale Junction.

Remarks on the SinoHydro road projects
Vice President Bawumia expressed his happiness at the commissioning of yet another inner-city road from the SinoHydro agreement. He claimed that this had silenced critics who questioned the SinoHydro agreement’s viability after it was signed three years ago.
Bawumia said. “I am especially glad today because many of our political opponents claimed that what we were proposing to achieve under the SinoHydro road projects was not feasible when we initially brought up the idea of the project following my visit to China in 2018. However, today is the commissioning day for yet another SinoHydro project.”
“Sadly, for some of our opponents, when we say something and they don’t understand it, they just say you’re lying. But they are hushed now as we officially open the route. They no longer assert that it is impossible,” he continued.
Other ongoing projects in addition to the Cape Coast Inner City roads
In addition to the Cape Coast Inner City project he oversaw, Dr. Bawumia provided updates on other ongoing SinoHydro projects.
Bawumia cited several ongoing Sinohydro projects, including 100 km of inner-city roads in Kumasi, and a 50%-completed PTC interchange in Takoradi. He also cited the construction of Sunyani and Berekum Inner City roads, which are at 60% complete.
The Vice President reaffirmed the NPP Government’s dedication to enhancing the nation’s road infrastructure. Noting that the present Akufo-Addo Administration had built more highways and interchanges than any other administration in the nation’s history.
