A new wastewater treatment plant in Nokia, Finland, is under construction following a US$36 million contract signed between Skanska and Nokian Vesi Oy. The project includes the construction of the 12,000 square metre facility, HVAC, building electrical, machinery, and building automation work for the plant. Furthermore, the plant has been designed to account for expansion down the road that will meet the growing needs of the city. The wastewater treatment facility consists of the processing plant, a garage, a monitoring building and a repair building. Additionally, there will be an equalization pumping station put up on the site.

Construction Timeline for the Nokia Wastewater Treatment Plant
Construction broke ground in the fourth quarter of 2024. The facility is expected to be completed by the first Mechanical, biological, and chemical purification methods will be used at the wastewater treatment facility. Because of the modern purification technology, nitrogen and other pollutants can be removed from the water way more efficiently than before.

Other Skanska water projects
The international company has also recently worked on a joint venture with ECCO III Enterprises in Yonkers, New York. Following the signing of a US$848 million contract, it will construct a reservoir project aimed at supplying New Yorkers with clean drinking water. It will add two new chemical facilities to the US$2 billion plan to improve the Hillview Reservoir which will include an interim structure for chemical systems used for water quality monitoring and water carry pumps. Skanska will also upgrade the existing north entrance to the Hillview Reservoir grounds. The New York City Department of Environmental Protection decided in March 2019 to cover the concrete-lined Hillview Reservoir, built in 1917, to comply with the Safe Water Drinking Act.
