SolarMax Technology will build a 430-megawatt-hour (MWh) Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Pecos County, Texas, after signing a $127.3 million engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract. The Solamax BESS project in Texas marks a major milestone for the company as it moves beyond residential solar into large-scale commercial energy infrastructure.
The company joins other comapnies entering into the battery Energy Storage System business. One notable one is Energy Vault Holdings Inc who recently announced the successful close of $18 million in project financing for its flagship Cross Trails BESS Project also in Texas.
SolarMax Expands into Utility-Scale Storage
Scheduled for completion by June 30, 2026, the project is designed to store renewable energy and dispatch it during peak demand periods—helping improve grid stability and energy affordability in the ERCOT market.
SolarMax will handle the full EPC scope, including design, procurement, installation, and commissioning. The company is also taking an 8% equity stake in Longfellow BESS I LLC, the special-purpose entity developing the project.
The Solamax BESS project in Texas positions the company competitively in the fast-growing U.S. energy storage sector, where utility-scale battery systems are becoming vital for renewable energy integration.
CEO: A Shift Toward Long-Term Clean Energy Growth
CEO David Hsu said the contract signals a strategic pivot as SolarMax evolves into a full-service clean energy solutions provider.
“The Solamax BESS project in Texas demonstrates our capacity to execute complex, high-impact projects that support the nation’s clean energy transition,” said Hsu. He added that supplier negotiations are nearly complete, and the company is on track to deliver the project by mid-2026.
