Sonelgaz and GECOL or other the state-owned utility in charge of electricity and natural gas distribution in Algeria and the General Electricity Company of Lybia have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to strengthen their cooperation in the field of electricity production.

The MoU was signed at the Ben Aknoun Training Center (CBA) which is located in Ben Aknoun a commune of Algiers Province and a suburb of the city of Algiers in northern Algeria, by MM. Chaher BOULAKHRES, CEO of Sonelgaz and Wiam El Abdelli, Chairman of the Board of Directors of GECOL.

Also present in the ceremony was the Chargé d’affaires of the Embassy of Libya in Algeria, senior executives of Sonelgaz subsidiaries as well as Mr. Achour Telli, the Secretary-General of the Fédération Nationale des Travailleurs des Industries Electriques et Gazières (FNTIEG/UGTA) or the National Federation of Workers in the Electricity and Gas Industries, in English.

Provision of services in the electricity production field 

Through this memorandum of understanding, the Sonelgaz Group has undertaken to provide the Libyan partner with services such as maintenance of electricity production plants, the supply of spare parts, and the repair of defective equipment, as well as the assembly and commissioning of power plants of all types and formats.

Furthermore, the Sonelgaz Group will provide training in these areas, and also in the areas of Production, Engineering, works, services and marketing of products, ICT (Information and Communication Technologies), management and development of electrical systems, among others.

The Chairman of the Board of Directors of GECOL, Mr. Wiam El Abdelli welcomed the signing of this memorandum of understanding which strengthens the cooperation already initiated between GECOL and Sonelgaz.
