The construction and extension of the R45 million Centenary Road in South Africa has been completed and the road is now open for use by the public.

The road which is 2km in length completes the link from Modderfontein road (R25) adjacent Linbro and will hence forth offer an alternate access to and from the N3. The road will help ease traffic on internal roads and should help alleviate current traffic congestion in the area. The road was constructed in 2 phases with the first phase connecting Modderfontein to Linbro area while the second phase connects Centenary to High Street in Modderfontein.

Midrand based Probuild Construction Group was awarded the contract to build the road.
Zendai Development SA CEO, Anthony Diepenbroek, “This project is one of our first and is an important milestone for the envisioned development of the Modderfontein area.”

“The road offers an alternate access to Modderfontein, and will in the longer term, alleviate congestion on internal roads by serving as a main access point to the development and the proposed Modderfontein Gautrain Station,” he added.

Strategically located in the province of Gauteng and its strong connections to major transport infrastructure and surrounding nodes ensures that Modderfontein gives that much needed support to economic growth and development not only in Johannesburg, but also in the entire province. It’s strategic location and direct linkages to O.R. Tambo International Airport and the Ekurhuleni Aerotropolis offers a great opportunity to accommodate land use activities relating to the freight and logistics market.

The Modderfontein Master Plan is considering the integration of residential land use and transport planning to ensure a development that has easy to access to both public and non-motorised transport systems allowing an appropriate level of access.

The master planning for the Modderfontein area which is currently undergoing review by CoJ outlines a number of key functional districts, namely -commercial and financial district, a retirement community, tourism and leisure district, light industrial various residential offerings and logistic parks, and an educational precinct.
