Construction work on the US $0.30bn Amakhala Emoyeni Wind Farm in South Africa is in progress with commercial operations set for 2016. This comes even as the first shipment of wind turbines arrived for the project earlier in the year.
The 134.4MW Amakhala Emoyeni Wind Farm construction will have 56N117/2400 Nordex turbines with a capacity factor of 35 percent installed.
According to the CEO of Cennergi, Thomas Garner, this wind power construction project will become the first one to ever use the Nordex N117/2400 turbines which have been specially manufactured for use in low wind power sites.
Delivery of the turbines to the wind farm will be done by low-bed trucks in more than 500 trips at 60km/h from Coega Bay.
Garner noted that the wind farm will help solidify the countries in house project execution thus delivering world class wind facilities on time with the appropriate budget and high standards of safety.
In addition, construction of the Amakhala Emoyeni Wind Farm in South Africa will help launch Cennergi’s footprint in the renewable energy sector of South Africa as it becomes a revenue generating business.
Cennergi has two other wind projects in South Africa, in additiion to the Amakhala Emoyeni wind farm which is now in progress and a forth one by the company set to begin soon.
