South African hotel management company, Newmark Hotels, Reserves & Lodges has been awarded the contract for the hotel forming part of the 15-storey Hallmark House which is set to open in September 2016, in Maboneng district.

Hallmark House, which is located in the Maboneng district on the east side of the Johannesburg CBD, was initially built in the 1970s as a diamond-polishing centre. It comprises a mix of residential and hotel apartments. Maboneng means ‘place of light’ in Sotho and is owned and being developed by Propertuity.

Maboneng is a vibrant and fast growing modern neighbourhood that has become a target destination for those who enjoy creativity and those with entrepreneurial spirit, given the metropolitan outlook, from graffiti to art centers and photo studios; high end markets to yoga studios; new designer stores, the area is innovative and full of art.

Newmark’s boutique hotel will be exemplary in its style and ambience and will come in handy for businesspeople and tourists to explore this multi-cultural community.

The hotel will consist 46 apartments on two storeys and also offer janitor service for the residents’ apartments. There will be two eateries; one on the ground floor and The Grande on the roof top. The location

of the Hallmark House allows 360 degree bird’s eye cityscapes of Johannesburg and Hillbrow.
The new modern building also includes 24-hour manned security, secure parking, art installations, fast internet over fibre optics and a gym.
In a bid to make Maboneng an epitome of urbanism, Propertuity has acquired many buildings in the city center. An international team of professionals ; Jonathan Liebmann, CEO of Propertuity; David an architect at Adjaye Associates; and Malica Design for the interiors, are the big minds behind Africa’s most exciting urban city space; Maboneng.

With its modern design, Hallmark House will become the most iconic building in the Propertuity Portfolio. It will allow for unequaled views of the Jo’burg city skyline and will include outdoor spaces for every hotel unit to enhance the visitor experience.

David Adjaye a leading architect has in the past designed the Nobel Peace Centre in Oslo and the famous Smithsonian Museum in London. Adjaye Associates’ largest completed project to date is the Moscow School of Management Skolkovo that cost £160 million.
