The project entails the:Resurfacing of the remaining Gauteng section of the road that links with the North West;reinstating of road markings and traffic signs;construction of edge beams on the road; replacing or repairing of damaged guardrails;cleaning road reserve and cutting of overgrown grass;cleaning and repairing drainage structures; andconstructing new drainage structures.

The project is scheduled to be completed in 18 months’ time. The project will also see the construction of bus bays at selected intersections in support of public transport and passenger convenience.

According to Vadi, the road improvements will serve to stimulate economic activities and trigger economic development between Gauteng and the North West province. It will serve as a catalyst to equalise the distribution of wealth in the region as this is an important freight route.

The affected wards along the route will be given preference when it comes to sub-contracting and recruitment of labour with selection focusing on women, youth and people living with disabilities.

The project will improve travelling time and ensure improved safety for road users, cyclists and pedestrians.
