Phase 1 of Mpumalanga road rehabilitation is set to be completed in November 2016 according to provincial Department of Public Works, Roads and Transport. The rehabilitation of R36 road is to be done between Lydenburg and N4 Schoemanskloof intersection, in Mpumalanga.

The road rehabilitation project is expected to take up a total of US$17.4 Million. Heavy trucks serving mining activities had made the road to deteriorate. Rehabilitation will be done on a 15 km stretch of road, but there will be routine maintenance would be on the other sections.

The road rehabilitation of the road is very important to the whole province and the users will be getting numerous advantages since tourism and mining will be improved, and the transport will be easier.

“This is one of many important roads in the province, which require new investment for rehabilitation or repairs, against very limited funding,” the department said on Monday this week.
