US $14.4m The Capital Mbombela hotel is set to be a game-changer on Mpumalanga city’s hotel and accommodation landscape. The hotel is expected to have one of the largest conferencing facilities in the city, as well as its 100 hotel rooms and 50 apartment-style rooms, exclusive restaurant and bar, and a number of other exclusive amenities. It is expected to create at least 125 new full-time jobs and also opportunities for allied trades and professions, which include entertainers, eventing companies, and other related services.
“The city has not seen any significant addition to the hotel repertoire since the development ahead of the 2010 FIFA World Cup projects,” said Marc Wachsberger, managing director of The Capital Hotels and Apartments, the hotel group working on the project, in conjunction with Cube Capital, a Broad-Based Black Empowerment 12J investment company.

Popular among families from smaller urban and rural areas
Wachsberger anticipates that The Capital Mbombela will be the first choice among families from smaller urban and rural areas who are in constant lookout for a city weekend away. He also said that families from Mozambique and Swaziland will find its services as appealing as the various shopping and leisure opportunities the city has to offer.
With Mpumalanga hosting some of South Africa’s biggest mining and manufacturing operations, The Capital Mbombela is also likely to be the popular choice when it comes to conferencing and meeting venue, especially with the group’s stringent approach to COVID-19 protocols. The hotel is scheduled for opening in November.
The Capital Mbombela hotel is the third new product in the The Capital Hotels and Apartments portfolio in 2021 as the group continues its aggressive expansion strategy of adding at least two new hotels each year. The group recently announced the acquisition of the The Capital Zimbali resort in KwaZulu Natal after a business rescue process, and concluded a lease-to-buy agreement for the iconic 15 on Orange in the heart of Cape Town.
