Early this year, work on the US$100,000 South Mining-Empumalanga Community library in Hwange is anticipated to begin, with the hope of improving research and education in the mining town. The project’s ground-breaking ceremony took place last year.

While officiating at the ground-breaking event, Matabeleland North Provincial Affairs Minister Richard Moyo said the research and educational facility was intended to increase the quality of education in Hwange urban, according to the current Hwange Local Board report. Moyo stated that ensuring that all children receive a decent education was a top priority for the government and that the development of the South Mining-Empumalanga Community Library will complement government initiatives.

South Mining-Empumalanga Community library Prjoject Through PPP

According to the council report, the South Mining-Empumalanga Community library is being built through a private-public partnership (PPP) between coke and coal generating business South Mining Private Limited and HLB. According to Moyo, PPPs between corporate actors and local governments will enhance the communities in which they operate. He also asked all businesses in Hwange and Matabeleland North provinces to follow in the footsteps of South Mining and HLB for the sake of their communities and those in the surrounding area.

According to the newspaper, HLB chairwoman councillor Nqobile Ocean Mabhena remarked that the library was expected to play a key role in raising pass rates in Hwange district schools. Most of the supplies for the library’s construction and the equipment to be utilized in the library had already been obtained, according to South Mining administrator Charles Muchabayiwa. Muchabayiwa also stated that the business has secured the majority of the materials needed to build the library. They’ve also acquired some of the library’s equipment, including computers and furnishings. He concluded that the corporation intended to begin building just after the rainy season of 2022 in order to guarantee that everything goes well.
