Demand for training from the Southern Africa Stainless steel Development Association (SASSDA) has doubled in the last year.

The year 2015 has been an exciting one for SASSDA with the launch of many training initiatives. Course offering was increased while the ones already there were updated with the aim of increasing knowledge, up skilling and educating individuals in the stainless steel industry.

The training by SASSDA covers various target groups which includes architects, workshop employees, sales staff, managers, engineers and university students.
This year saw the launch of the Stainless Steel in Architecture breakfast workshop course which was presented in four major cities: Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban and Pretoria.

There was also the launch of the Handling and Fabrication of Stainless Steel courses targeted to workshop employees. However, members have so far opted to have this as an in-house course.

The advanced stainless steel course is currently being reviewed and is expected to be rolled out in the first quarter of 2016.

Some of the coursed offered by the Southern Africa Stainless steel Development Association (SASSDA) have been shared with other stainless steel development associations (SSDAs) around the world for adaption.

Over 250 people in the industry have registered for SASSDA courses this year with an addition of over 400 students at various universities have been up skilled with stainless steel knowledge as SASSDA strives to ensure that stainless steel remains an important part of the universities’ curriculum. Some students have elected to participate in the student competition by incorporating stainless steel as part of their 4th year projects.

SASSDA believe that this training will help drive the stainless steel growth as people become more comfortable in specifying, using and working with stainless steel.
