Southern Water’s has awarded its latest £540 million four contracts to three companies with the aim of improving the water network in UK’s South East region. The three companies will each carry out designated roles through the 5-year specified period.
The work specified in the latest four contacts will be done in four lots. The construction and maintenance of manholes will be handled by the Lanes Group. Cappagh Browne will do sewer rehabilitation projects through the 5-year period. Also in the roster is McAllister Bros who will match up to their skill-set in sewer sealing.
More work in their roster include the handling of needed essential front-line sewer services. These will encompass the varying degree of essentials from emergency calls to rehabilitation of sewers. The stated will be done in collaboration with Southern Water with aims of further improving “environmental performance” and “customer service” – as put by the water company. The £540 million 5-year improvement plan by Southern Water will unequivocally account for every quid.
The three partners will start work in April 2025 and work through the 5-year Asset Management Period 8 (AMP8) spending period. The possibility of contract renewals after the specified work period as also been put on the table.
A look at the Asset Management Period 8 (AMP8)
The AMP8 also recently featured £3.7 billion in contract awards to eight companies. The frameworks for the awards was in two stances. First as “Strategic Delivery Partner”, and second as “Infrastructure Low Complexity Delivery Route”. The strategic delivery partners handle major infrastructural developments like construction of new pumping stations and pipelines. The second group of contractors handle water and waste systems, and are involved in the critical design and building stages for the supply networks.

The contract span 7 years and 5 years for the former and latter as stated respectively. The latest £540 million contract will run through to 2030. These, together with other contracts featuring in the AMP8, will “more than double” the investment made by Southern Water for its 2025-2030 spending period.
The head of Southern Water, Alex Saunders also expressed his delight in an official statement to the press. “These agreements prepare Southern Water to meet the service levels expected by our customers and will help us to deliver on our environmental improvement ambitions for years to come”, he stated.
