A groundbreaking event for the new Stalnaker Aquatic Center took place recently at Warner Robins in Houston county, Georgia. Houston County officials were gathered to mark the start of construction on the new state-of-the-art swimming facility. This is a much-needed development, which will provide a proper venue for recreational activities, training programs, and swimming competitions.

The Houston County Board of Commissioners is working in collaboration with the Houston County Board of Education(HCBOE) on the project. As a result, the HCBOE has donated a parcel located on Cohen Walker Drive to build this new Stalnaker Aquatic Center. The project is also receiving support from the city governments of Warner Robins, Perry, and Centerville. Cooper Carry is handling the design, while Parrish Construction Group will serve as the project’s construction manager.

Development plans and the timeline for the Stalnaker Aquatic Center

Chris Brown, an assistant superintendent at Houston County’s School District welcomed the new Stalnaker Aquatic Center development. He said the high school athletes and Aquanauts teams currently use an outdoor pool, which is not the Olympic standard. However, the new facility will feature a 50-meter pool with 20 lanes. In addition, the facility will also provide a warm pool for community use, along with ample stadium seating.

According to Brown the new Aquatic Center is expected to reach completion by the fall of 2023. Once the facility is completed, the community will host its first district championships program. Brown said the school district’s goal was to give every elementary school student an opportunity to learn to swim. Therefore, completing the aquatic center project is a step towards achieving this goal.

The Superintendent for Houston County Schools, Mark Scott, spoke in favor of the new Stalnaker Aquatic Center project. He pointed out that the High School swim team would no longer have to share facilities with other community members. Furthermore, the new facility also provides a home base for the team and eliminates the need to travel out for competitions.

Mayor LaRhonda Patrick of Warner Robins, mentioned that the Aquatic Center project would help children learn about water safety.  Patrick described this as a major accomplishment for future generations since it’s also aimed at providing safe swimming lessons for children.
