In a milestone move that strengthens Bulgaria’s clean energy ambitions, SUNOTEC and Sungrow have inked a strategic agreement to deploy 2.4 GWh of battery energy storage systems (BESS) across several large-scale solar projects in Southeast Europe. The SUNOTEC and Sungrow deal marks a pivotal point for battery-backed solar infrastructure in the region.
SUNOTEC, one of Europe’s leading integrated solar solutions providers, is partnering with Sungrow – the world’s top supplier of PV inverters and energy storage systems – to bring cutting-edge BESS technologies to projects across Bulgaria and the wider Southeast Europe. The projects will use Sungrow’s flagship PowerTitan 2.0 BESS. They will also be complemented by its SG350HX-20 string inverter and Modular Virtual Storage (MVS) technology in hybrid PV-ESS systems.

SUNOTEC – Sungrow BESS Project: A First for Bulgaria
This agreement marks the first BESS deployment in Bulgaria using Sungrow’s technology, making it a landmark venture for both companies. Select projects within the 2.4 GWh portfolio will also benefit from Bulgaria’s RESTORE national funding program. This in-turn reinforces the country’s commitment to a smarter and greener electricity grid.
Kaloyan Velichkov, SUNOTEC’s Founder and CEO, emphasized that the 2.4 GWh battery storage deal to power Bulgaria isn’t just about storing energy – it’s about building a reliable green energy future. “The global energy transition depends not only on how much renewable power we produce, but on how intelligently we manage and store it.”, Velichkov said.
A Grid-Ready Partnership
By integrating BESS into its expanding network of solar parks, SUNOTEC is boosting the grid’s ability to store and release clean energy more reliably. The deal not only enhances grid stability but also allows for smoother integration of renewables into national and regional energy markets.
Anastasios Gkinis, Regional Director at Sungrow, also commented on the strategic impact saying, “Combining Sungrow’s energy storage innovation with SUNOTEC’s execution excellence enables a powerful force to reshape Bulgaria’s energy future.”
As SUNOTEC and Sungrow sign the strategic 2.4 GWh BESS deal to power Bulgaria’s energy future, Southeast Europe is also set to become a critical player in the global energy transition.
