The Agence Française de Dévelopement (AFD) in partnership with the Aga Khan Development Network have penned a US$ 79.8m deal. The deal was reached to aid the Tanzanian government in its efforts to improve the quality of health programs in Tanzania provided by the Network.
The deal includes a US$ 53.5m concessional loan from AFD and a US$ 26.3m contribution from AKDN. The funds will see the construction of a new facility which is expected to cover an estimated 14,000 sq. meters and the establishment of 30 outreach centers. The centers will be used to provide free monitoring, immunization and family planning services. The facility will accommodate cardiology, oncology, neurosciences, critical care, mother and child health, nuclear medicine and imaging services
The signing of the deal took place at the AKDN headquarters in Gouvieux France and was attended by Princess Zahra Aga Khan, who heads AKDN’s Social Welfare Department.
The agreement marks the beginning of the second phase of the hospital`s expansion plans. The first phase was completed in 2000. These expansions are a part of the plan to develop an integrated AKDN health system in the East African states.
