The construction of the long awaited Tanzania’s Magole-Turiani road will be completed on time, main contractor to the project China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation has announced. The road is being overseen by Tanzania Roads Agency (TANROADS)

China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation says the 50 kilometre long road is almost complete.

According to Tanzania-China Friendship Promotion Association Secretary General, Joseph Kahama they have held a series of meetings to ensure that the road project progresses is successfully completed.

“All we want is to see the project end on time as are looking forward to ensure that all the projects end on time” he added

This comes barely a week after the Tanzania Roads Agency had raised concerns on how the project was being handled and called upon the contractor to give assurance if the project will be delivered on time.

Although construction of the road has been suspended several times for lack of funds, Kahama said workers at the site are in high spirit.

“China and Tanzania have a shared purpose in opening up this vast country using roads. On such issues our two countries and people speak with one voice and one heart.The stretch will be completed in time when money will be availed in time too,” he said.

A section of the local press quoted Morogoro Regional Commissioner (RC), Steven Kebwe, urging the contractor to complete the 66.7bn/- project by September, next year.

The government has availed 41.8bn/- to the project. Kahama said the project’s engineer, Khatibu Khamis, assured the RC that the Magole-Turiani stretch would be completed in time possibly before the set deadline.
