TwyFord Tanzania Ceramics to construct a tiles factory

TwyFord Tanzania Ceramics Company is set to construct a tiles industry at Pingo village in Coast Region that will lead to the creation of close to 6,000 jobs.

The new industry is in the early stages of construction and is projected to be completed in July and officially opened in August this year.

Minister for Industry, Trade and Investment, Mr. Charles Mwijage confirmed the reports and said that upon commencing full production, the industry is anticipated to offer direct employment to approximately 2,000 people and another 4,000 people will get indirect employment from the firm.

“We expect this industry to sell tiles to the local market and also to export to neighbouring countries such as Malawi, Zambia and Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

The Tanzanian government is very pleased and satisfied by the efforts to build this mega industry, it is going to provide both direct and indirect employment to Tanzanians, it will also boost our economy through selling its products in and outside the country,” he said.

Mr. Mwijage also commented that the business is also focusing on extending its markets to Uganda, Burundi, Rwanda, central African countries and probably outside the continent in future.

Tanzania has a vision of becoming a semi-industrialized country by the year 2025, for which the contribution of manufacturing to the national economy must reach a minimum of 40% of the GDP and to achieve all these, Tanzania aims to transform from being dominated by natural resource exploitation activities and extractive industries that is agriculture, tourism and mining and aim to become an economy with a broad and diverse base of manufacturing, processing and packaging industries that will direct both the productive as well as the export trade sector.

The Foreign Direct Investments (FDIs) is expected to provide the capital for the desired industrial development.
