TAQA Arabia has announced the commissioning of the largest solar plant in Sharm El-Sheikh. The solar plant project, which is consistent with Egypt’s policy to increase the use of clean energy, is built on a 250,000sqm site and has a production capacity that exceeds 42GWh annually.
The project is consistent with Egypt’s support for privately created energy projects. This is exemplified by the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy and the Governorate of South Sinai.
Chairman of TAQA Arabia, Khaled Abu Bakr, stated, “TAQA Arabia has been a reputable national operator and one-stop shop for all energy requirements for more than 25 years. However, the company is the first national company to use its plot for commercial purposes in the enormous Benban project. This has had a substantial economic impact and strengthened Egypt’s efforts to make the switch to sustainable energy.”

The capacity of the Solar Plant in Sharm El-Sheikh
Abu Bakr noted, “Today, TAQA Arabia is unveiling the largest clean energy solar power plant in Sharm el-Sheikh. It has a total capacity of 20MW, as Egypt takes over the incoming Presidency of COP 27 in Sharm El-Sheikh. I want to thank the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy for its support during the development of this project.
Additionally, I want to thank the Tourism Development Authority for providing the land for this project. As well as the Governorate of South Sinai for its great trust. Finally, I must thank the New and Renewable Energy Authority (NREA) and the Egyptian Electric Utility and Regulatory Agency (EgyptERA). They both worked tirelessly to grant us all the licenses required to finish the project.”
Sami AbdelKader, the managing director of TAQA Power, expressed his pride at having finished this significant project with a total expenditure of EGP 250 million in such a short amount of time. Over the course of the project’s 25-year lifespan, carbon emissions will be reduced by around 500,000 tons. Over 100 people with expertise in solar energy, worked on building the station that will supply the Nabq tourist area. Global Energy has been granted a license for electricity distribution at the solar plant in Sharm El-Sheikh.
I love this article. I think it’s great that Egypt is taking steps to increase its use of clean energy. I believe that this project will have a positive impact on the environment and the economy.
I appreciate the fact that the Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy is supporting privately created energy projects.
This is a great example of the private sector working together with the government to create positive change.
