As part of the £14 million Inverness Airport Station project, Bam Nuttall has completed work on a railway line connecting Inverness and Aberdeen. After 11 days of hard work, Bam Nuttall and its project partners completed the works between Inverness and Nairn as part of a station development program.

The work began on October 14, and the railway line reopened on October 26. In addition to significantly advancing the new station, the team completed a 950m passing loop, effectively double-tracking through the station. Engineers also replaced almost 7km of rail adjacent to the site with 2,900 sleepers and 10,000t of ballast.

A new modular signaling system was also implemented in the area, resulting in the installation of ten new signals and the first use of fiber cables for signaling. During the work, more than 30km of signaling cable and 7km of power cable were run.

Inverness Airport Station railway project will provide better service

“The work undertaken during the blockade was incredibly successful,” said Bam Nuttall operations director for rail Nissar Mohammed. “We have made incredible progress on delivering this amazing new enhancement to the Scottish rail network. When completed, the improvements will provide a faster, more consistent rail service. Therefore, it will improve commuters’ lives and facilitate growth in the area.”

BAM Nuttall stated that the activities were planned for this time period to lower disruption to the traveling public. This is because the work could not be completed while the railway was still operational. The new £14 million facility is funded by the Scottish government. It will consist of a two-platform station on the Aberdeen-Inverness line with step-free access via a footbridge with lifts.
