What will be done
Suzlon will deploy 127 of its S144 turbines, each rated at 3 MW. The installations will include:
- 180 MW in Maharashtra
- 180 MW in Madhya Pradesh
- 21 MW in Tamil Nadu, designated to serve C&I energy consumers
What was said
Suzlon’s Vice Chairman, Girish Tanti, called the project a “critical shift” in India’s energy landscape. “The pursuit of reliable, round‑the‑clock renewable power is taking center stage”, Girish said. Suzlon and Zelestra joining hands for the three Indian states to get 381 MW in a wind project marks that debut.
Zelestra’s CEO, Sajay KV, also emphasized on the deal’s long-term vision with regard to the energy company. “It lays the foundation for our 5 GW portfolio of hybrid projects, with interconnection certainty by 2027–28”, Sajay said.
Why it matters
- Shift to FDRE. Unlike intermittent solar or standalone wind, FDRE allows Suzlon’s turbines to feed consistent power into the grid. This is ideal for utilities and clients demanding reliability.
- Local execution. Suzlon will handle everything. This is from pre-construction planning and engineering to turbine manufacture and long-term operations support. It also demonstrates the plight of Indian-built renewable energy project.
- Market confidence. Following this announcement, Suzlon shares jumped nearly 5–6% intraday, underscoring investor optimism in its FDRE capabilities.
Outlook on Suzlon-Zelestra’s 381 MW wind project in India
This is more than a contract win. It’s India’s first pivotal step into utility-scale, dispatchable renewable energy. For construction and energy leaders, it signals the rising demand and opportunity for integrated wind farm delivery and long-term asset support across India.
Suzlon and Zelestra joining hands for the three Indian states to get 381 MW in a wind project underscores how India’s renewable landscape is maturing. This growth is from intermittent solar and wind projects, to firm and dispatchable formats.
