Kampala Serena hotel in Uganda previously known as Nile Hotel International and Conference Centre is yet to be expanded as Serena Hotels secured US$ 8m for the course.
Tourism Promotion Services Uganda Ltd, currently trading as Serena Hotels announced that they secured US$ 8m funding from the French development agency Proparco for expansion purposes which has been brought about by the growing demand for the services offered by the facility. The hotel which has a capacity of 85 rooms was acquired by Serena Hotels in February this year.
Mahmud Jan Mohamed, Managing Director of Serena Hotels confirmed the reports and said that the hotel distinguishes themselves from their competitors through their contributions, good governance and skilled manpower among others.
“Serena Hotels, safari lodges, camps and resorts differentiate themselves through their contribution to local economies, their good governance, through the training of skilled manpower and also through their involvement of craft industries and the sensitive conservation of the surrounding areas,” said Mr. Mohamed.
The initial facelift will include partial refurbishment and alterations of the meeting rooms, creation of an executive lounge and additional smaller meeting rooms, upgrading facilities at the Pearl of Africa restaurant, construction of 36 additional guest rooms and a brand new State Suite.
Proparco which is a subsidiary of the Agence Française de Développement (AFD) devoted to private sector funding has been supporting sustainable development for almost 40 years. It operates in 80 countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East and helps finance and support financial institutions and corporate private-sector projects. Their key focus is on renewable energy-based infrastructure, agribusiness, financial sector, health and education.
