UK’s BOOM Power and South Korea’s Topsun have partnered to develop a 50 MW Low Farm solar farm in West Yorkshire. The 210 acres solar farm located in Wakefied will serve the local grid. Work is scheduled to begin this year, and be complete by 2026. According to the latest press release by BOOM Power, it will also serve as the construction manager for the project.

BOOM Power and Topsun’s 50MW Low Farm solar farm project in West Yorkshire

In addition to being a renewable energy project, the Low Farm solar farm project in West Yorkshire will also enhance biodiversity in the local area.

The indicators are measured as percentage units relative to habitat and hedgerow. These numbers will be realized after site construction is completed. The focus on biodivesity enhancement by the project has especially been tailored to improve green infrastructure corridors, wildlife, and the local communities.

The founder of BOOM Powers, Mark Hogan, said the following in a press statement. “Partnering with Topsun has allowed both parties to achieve their respective company objectives while advancing the project to the next stage of construction.”

The CEO of Topsun, Dr Jeong Taek Yoon, also expressed excitement in the 50MW Low Farm solar farm project in West Yorkshire. “We are delighted to have signed this agreement and to be partnering with BOOM Power on the financing and construction of the Low Farm project. As Topsun’s first investment in the UK, this marks a significant milestone for our company.”

UK’s Contract for Difference (CfD) scheme award

This was awarded in Allocation Round 6 in September last year. BOOM Power and Topsun’s 50MW Low Farm solar farm project in West Yorkshire was among 131 other renewable energy project getting contract awards. A total of 3,288.31 MW for projects was awarded in the solar PV category.

In addition to this, a grand total of 9,648.26 MW was also awarded in contracts in the renewable clean energy category. This underscores the UK’s strive for clean energy transition.

The project has been described as a contributor to “UK’s journey towards a net-zero energy future”.
